The Hilton Garden Inn State College consistently receives positive reviews praising its cleanliness, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms. While some guests appreciate the convenient location and modern amenities, recurring concerns relate to the limited pool size and lack of included breakfast, especially considering advertised amenities.
Moving across the country, stayed at many hotels over the past few weeks and this was by far my favorite. Super friendly staff, clean rooms, great breakfast Highly recommend
What they lose in it not being walking distance to campus they more than make up for with their service. From Chris at the front desk making you feel like you’re talking to an old friend, to the amenities, pool, delicious Italian Restaurant. Even the housekeeping staff are so pleasant and welcoming. Just a very positive vibe. Highly recommend!
I have stayed in this hotel several times while traveling with my family. My husband attends conferences there (in the hotel’s conference rooms) while my daughter and I do touristy things. I want to emphasize how incredibly clean this hotel is. Last year when we were there, parts of it was under construction, and it was still very clean. On our most recent stay, I saw one of the housekeeping staff wiping down the elevator, the door handles to the vending rooms, and other heavy traffic areas. It was on a Monday and Tuesday morning, so it’s obviously something they do daily and it’s not just a response to someone being extra messy or the hotel being incredibly busy or something. When we had questions for the front desk or needed something, Grace was especially helpful. This hotel is also located very close to the university and the downtown area. You most likely wouldn’t want to walk to those locations from the hotel, but in your vehicle you’ll be there in less than 10 minutes.
I have to be honest and say I wasn’t very impressed staying here. For the price you pay to stay per night and then have to pay for every little thing- water bottles, breakfast- nothing is complimentary. No “spa”, and the restaurant is WAY too overly priced for what they serve! I went to the TX roadhouse up the way for a $40 meal- two margaritas, steak dinner, and a to go meal as well. For ONE entree, they want $40, drink NOT included and certainly doesn’t taste nearly as nice. I’m sorry, but that’s crazy. Aside from that, the staff is nice and the rooms are clean. But be prepared to pay out the nose while you’re here.
Checked in Sat 04/26 and from the first step inside was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is nicely kept up. The ladies at the reception were most kind and I received a welcome bag that I have never seen before for Hilton Lifetime Diamond members. The room is spacious, bathroom has all updated amenities. Very clean and I must say they truly keep the Hilton promise. Please keep up the good work on the property and kindness towards the guests. It’s certainly appreciated The restaurant Mercato Mio is a nice change from the usual Hilton Garden Inn onsite restaurant.
My stay had several avoidable issues, most of which relate to the property not delivering what it advertises. First, the driveway entrance is extremely narrow and easy to miss. Approaching it at night or in traffic, you practically have to crawl to avoid driving past it. For a Hilton-brand property, the access layout is surprisingly cramped and inconvenient. The main reason I booked this location was the indoor pool, and this was ultimately the biggest disappointment. The pool is not a real usable hotel pool—it’s extremely small, roughly 15 feet by 15 feet in total, with a very short 3-foot section and a small 5-foot section. It feels more like a decorative basin than a functional amenity. To make matters worse, the water was ice-cold and the room itself was not heated. The air was freezing, the water was colder, and the pool was effectively unusable in winter. When a hotel advertises an indoor pool in Pennsylvania, the reasonable expectation is that it will be heated and useable year-round. This one was not even close. The exterior signage also advertises a “spa,” but there is no hot tub, no whirlpool, and no spa services of any kind. It is just the tiny, freezing pool described above. The advertising creates an impression the hotel simply does not deliver on. The gym is a single small room with very basic equipment. It works for a quick session, but there’s nothing notable about it and it doesn’t match the expectations set by the brand. Breakfast pricing was another issue. Unless you pay the additional fee for the breakfast-included rate, you will spend around $20 per person for what is a very average meal. The food quality itself was fine, but nowhere near the value implied by the price tag. For the same cost, you can get a better breakfast at a local diner, or stay at another chain where breakfast is included. Overall, the hotel looks appealing online, but the amenities—especially the pool and the so-called “spa”—do not match what is advertised. In winter, the pool is effectively unusable, and the breakfast value is extremely poor. I would not choose this location again unless these issues are addressed.
Easy to find on E College Ave and not so close to a highway that you can hear the noise. Inside was bright and modern, I wasn't expecting it to be in such good shape! Lobby and room was nice, friendly staff and a great breakfast.
Average hotel. The reason for this review is the restaurant situation. The dinner service was just in half the front lobby. The prices for dinner are what I would consider to be outrageous for average to below average food. Then the breakfast. They don’t offer complimentary breakfast. The breakfast they do offer is atrocious. The service was god awful, 7 people in the “restaurant” and the food came out cold. Point is, the food situation here is all wrong. Stay somewhere else, go out for dinner, and enjoy a decent complimentary breakfast when you get up in the morning.
Christina was amazing! All I had to do was send her a quick text, and toothbrushes/toothpaste were brought up to my room immediately, she took lots of pictures for us in the lobby, and made sure all of our suits and dresses were spotless before we headed off to our event. Her customer service and attention to detail made the stay 10 times better. Thank you Chris!!
