The Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center has undergone recent renovations, with some areas still under construction. While guests appreciate the updated lobby and common areas, and commend the helpfulness of the staff, significant issues regarding room quality, cleanliness, and functionality persist. Recent reviews highlight problems with malfunctioning amenities, outdated room conditions, and inconsistent service.
We traveled here for state games of America. The beds being 2 kings was great but that’s about the only positive of our experience. Our first night the bathtub plug broke and the paint was literally chipping off the bottom of the tub. Our tv didn’t work properly. Tried calling the front desk 3 separate times to alert front desk and no one answered. 3 calls. Over 30 minutes waiting. Not a single answer. Because our tv wasn’t working we couldn’t see the food menu so we called down to room service to ask how to see the menu. The girl working told me how to view it. Did not mention anything about the kitchen closing soon. When we were ready to place our order I called back at 9:55 (again unaware of when the kitchen closed) she left me on hold for 5 minutes. When it hit 10:00 on the dot she picked up and I said “hi I’d like to place an order” she says kitchen just closed. Which if I had been told when I called the first time I wouldn’t even have put an order in that close to the kitchen closing. The internet is HORRENDOUS. For a giant hotel you’d think they wouldn’t cheap out on wifi. Especially because that area doesn’t get great cell reception. So I don’t recommend coming here for business at all. We were there for a competition and it made it incredibly difficult to communicate with the coaches. There’s so many other hotels in this area. Save yourself the hassle and book elsewhere. Almost $500 for 2 nights for the lack of service and room conditions is a joke.
Average hotel for the price. The rooms were better than expected as in cleaner. Bed was a little soft for my taste and the bed was awkward. Be wared that this is a huge hotel and you may need to walk far to get to your room. Ice makers were broke, not functioning, or missing at one location. The cleaning staff start cleaning and banging doors closed early in the morning, so don't expect to sleep in. Usually hotels wait till mid morning and not 7. Parking is not good for the sprawling complex. Handicap parking was really tight for the size of the facility.
I was traveling home from Cleveland and decided to stay here to break up the long drive — and I’m really glad I did. The Penn Stater has been completely remodeled since the last Penn State football season, and the upgrade is obvious the moment you walk through the doors. The fresh, clean scent in the lobby set the tone right away. Every staff member I interacted with was kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. I said “We Are,” and without hesitation they echoed it right back — unprompted. That alone made my night. Legends and the breakfast buffet were both very good, and the whole property feels elevated and thoughtfully refreshed. If you’re a Penn State fan, you’ll absolutely enjoy staying here. It’s definitely going to be my first choice when I come back again.
Let me start by saying that the service we received was very kind. However, the hotel itself seemed to have undergone hasty renovations. For instance, the cover to our AC unit fell off the wall, revealing a dusty unit that could pose a safety hazard if a child were to find it. Additionally, the AC in our room was not working. We also encountered other issues, such as ants coming out from underneath the refrigerator, the internet not working on our floor, a random red stain on the chair, and a toilet that stopped working. The carpet was also dirty, with crumbs scattered on the floor. Despite these problems, when we called to address them, the staff promptly resolved them. However, the overall experience was not very comfortable. There was a loud group of people who were partying and slamming doors until 1 am when I called the front desk. They promptly addressed the issue. Overall, I would give the hotel a 5 for service and responsiveness, but the experience left much to be desired.
Clean rooms and nice facilities nearby to Penn State campus. Easily accessible to other State College shopping and food experiences. Staying for hockey tournament, will stay again!
I typically don’t write reviews. But the cafe & Joe place in this hotel is absurd pricing. $10 for a coconut water. $19 before tip for a latte and a sandwich. The other day somehow my bagel, water & coconut water came out to $37. That’s actual robbery. My bagel was also hard as a rock. They overcharge for pretty much everything here.
Thought the room and accommodations in the room were excellent. The location is great if your looking for peace and quiet. If your looking for a restaurant or bar though there's nothing within walking distance. The hotel has a bar and restaurant but the bar closed at 10 and restaurant was already closed when I got there, so if you get in late or want a late night snack you have to have it delivered from somewhere else. I did go to the restaurant in the morning for breakfast and the food was good but what did b I ther me is they leave the creamer out on the tables at room temperature, and there were lines of gunk around the inside of the creamer jar which was very off-putting. Very fancy restaurant vibe, when I asked for my check the waitress spent 10 min straightening chairs and cleaning off other tables before finally going back to get my check.
Outstanding restaurant with cool sports vibe. Rooms are big and clean, bathroom shower had great pressure & volume (rare combo in a hotel). Front desk staff was very helpful throughout our stay.
Stayed at this location for about a week md during the snow storm . Overall the stay was great, beautiful hotel and unique rooms I stayed in a few styles. The front desk staff was professional and kind - Sherrie M. was wonderful and always helpful with a smile no matter how frigid the lobby was. Thankfully management had the fire place fixed towards the end of the stay. Sunday brunch had more than we expected and something for everyone. The other restaurants coffee shop we great as well . The maintenance staff was helpful and professional and the rooms and linen were clean. Looking forward to staying again due in the fall. Again, thank you Sherrie M, for all you did to ensure we had a great stay.
Room was dirty - hair all over bathroom floor - behind the door and carpet in bedroom looked like it had not been swept. There was also stuff under the bed - trash, bottle cap. Bed linens feel like sand paper. This hotel is below average for just recently being remodeled. I would not stay here again.
